About our Myanmar, Myin Dwin, Natural
About: Myin Dwin is a strong example of coffee’s ability to drive positive community change. Although one of Myanmar’s smaller producing groups by acreage, the village consistently achieves exceptional productivity and quality, with coffees that regularly score among the country’s highest.
Until 1970, this region of Shan State was known for heroin poppy cultivation. Seeking a more sustainable future, local families transitioned to coffee production despite the loss of a reliable income source and have remained committed to coffee ever since.
Revenue from specialty coffee has supported meaningful community development, including bicycles for students traveling to school, access to higher education, a community well, and a medical clinic. The community also prioritizes gender equity by ensuring women have access to coffee education and that household coffee income is shared fairly. Beyond economic benefits, the coffee project has strengthened collaboration and unity within Myin Dwin.
